The Providers

What is a Pediatrician?

Pediatrics is the medical specialty fully focused on the physical, mental, emotional and social health of children from birth to adolescence. Pediatricians provide preventive health maintenance for healthy children and medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill.

Pediatricians complete an additional 4 years of medical school after obtaining their college degrees. This is followed by 3 years of a pediatric residency in an accredited hospital based residency program. To become board certified, a pediatrician after completing a pediatric residency program must then pass a 2 day written examination given by the American Board of Pediatrics.

A physician does not have to be board certified to practice medicine however all the doctors at Windhaven Pediatrics are board certified.
